Hi Edmonton,
Well, June really decided to wring itself out before leaving. Edmonton's record rain is still messing with roads, river access and Canada Day plans, so today's edition is a mix of useful stuff and a few reasons to still leave the house.
The thing I'd tell a friend first: don't plan to watch fireworks from the river or riverbanks. The City says that's a no-go this year.
— The Edmonton Edit
⚡ Quick Hits
• Edmonton broke a June rainfall record from 1914. Rude, but impressive.
• Canada Day road closures start as early as 7:00 AM in some areas.
• The Elks are 3-0. That's a real early-season storyline.
🌤 Edmonton Weather
It's still very much "check the road before you leave" weather.
Edmonton has had record-level June rainfall, with flooding, road closures, high river levels and all North Saskatchewan River boat launches closed.
Canada Day fireworks viewing from the river or riverbanks is not permitted. Give yourself extra time, avoid flooded areas, and don't trust a puddle that looks shallow.

📰 What's Happening
Record June rainfall floods roads, homes and river access across Edmonton region
Edmonton's wet June has gone from annoying to record-breaking. The city has now passed its old June rainfall record, and the damage is showing up across Edmonton and nearby counties.
Edmonton has received more than 255 mm of rain this month, topping the previous June record of about 217 mm set in 1914. The same weather system has been tied to washed-out roads, home flooding, road closures, rising mosquito activity and restrictions around the North Saskatchewan River.
Township Road 534 along Oldman Creek was destroyed. Strathcona County reported more than two dozen road closures, while Edmonton saw closures on 137 Avenue.
EPCOR has received about 600 calls since Saturday related to the rain. That's a lot of soggy basements, blocked drains and people wondering how much more the sky has left.
The impact is bigger than one bad commute. Roads, homes, river access, construction, festivals and Canada Day planning are all being affected across the Edmonton region.
Residents should keep watching for road closure updates, avoid flooded areas and stay away from the North Saskatchewan River and riverbanks during Canada Day fireworks.

🏛 City Update
Canada Day road, bridge and park closures
The City has listed road, bridge and park closures for July 1 as part of Canada Day operations. Some closures begin as early as 7:00 AM.
Affected areas include River Valley Road, Walterdale Hill Road, Queen Elizabeth Park Road and 109 Street. Bridge impacts include High Level Bridge, Menzies Bridge, Groat Road Bridge and Dudley B. Menzies Bridge.
For anyone heading downtown or into the river valley, this means your usual route may not work. Check before leaving, especially if you're trying to get close to the fireworks.
Use the City's Canada Day page for the final closure list before travelling.

Canada Day ETS service changes and extra LRT service
ETS will run regular Sunday schedules on Canada Day, with extra LRT frequency later in the day.
The Capital Line runs every 15 minutes during the day, then every 10 minutes until 1:30 AM on July 2. The Valley Line runs every 15 minutes all day.
This is probably the saner option if you're trying to avoid downtown parking and road closures. Not glamorous, but practical.
Riders should confirm trip timing before heading out, especially after fireworks.

North Saskatchewan River boat launches closed for Canada Day fireworks
The City says all North Saskatchewan River boat launches are closed because of high river levels.
That also means viewing fireworks from the river is not permitted. Watching from riverbanks is not permitted either.
It's a safety call after all this rain, and honestly, the river does not need more drama right now. Pick a designated viewing area away from the water.
Use designated viewing areas away from the river and follow posted City restrictions.

🏒 Oilers & Sports
Edmonton Elks stay unbeaten after Week 4 win
The Elks are still perfect to start the season. Edmonton moved to 3-0 after beating the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on June 25.
That's not a small thing for a team trying to build some early belief. A 3-0 start gives fans something real to talk about before July even arrives.
The next test comes on the road. Edmonton visits the B.C. Lions on July 4 at 5:00 PM MT.
