Wednesday and Thursday dip back down to around -1°C with more cloud and light snow possible, before Friday warms us back up to about 5°C with clearing skies. 📰 What's Happening
Edmonton Transit bus route reliability varies widely, new report cards show
New City of Edmonton bus route report cards are out, and the gap between the best and worst performers is eye-opening. Top routes are hitting roughly 95% on-time performance, while the worst drop to 57.4% on weekdays. The six least punctual routes include the busy No. 8 and express routes 110X and 900X, routes plenty of us rely on daily.
Overall on-time performance is still above pre-pandemic levels, but it has slipped from 86% in 2023 to about 83% in 2025. If you've been wondering why your commute has felt off, you're not imagining it. City council is reviewing service improvement options in upcoming transit discussions.
Edmonton school opens 25-year-old time capsule from the year 2000
Students and staff at Good Shepherd Catholic Elementary cracked open a time capsule last week that had been sealed since 2000 - a quarter-century of predictions, mementos, and handwritten notes from a very different Edmonton.
The best part: one student's childhood dream tucked inside the capsule had actually come true. It's the kind of feel-good school moment that reminds you how much this city changes and how much stays the same. Staff say they're planning to reseal a new capsule with contributions from today's students. A nice little piece of local continuity.
Garneau Community League pushes to expand special-character zone
The Garneau Community League is proposing to expand its special-character residential area, trying to protect the neighbourhood's historic charm while still meeting Edmonton's density targets.
It's a tricky balance, Garneau was designated a major-growth node back in May 2025, and it's already the densest neighbourhood in the city. The league has been hosting in-person engagement sessions at Garneau School, and a public survey is open until May 4 if you want to weigh in. Whether you live there or just love wandering its tree-lined streets on a sunny afternoon, this one's worth paying attention to. The city will review community feedback before considering any zoning changes.

Jane's Walk YEG passes torch to Edmonton City as Museum Project after 16 years
After 16 years, the original organizers of Jane's Walk YEG, those wonderful free, community-led neighbourhood tours every May — are handing things off to ECAMP, a program under the Edmonton Heritage Council. Founders are calling it a positive, sustainable transition, and ECAMP (which describes itself as "a museum without walls") feels like a natural fit.
If you've never done a Jane's Walk, this is your year to start: the 2026 walks kick off May 1 across neighbourhoods around the city. It's one of Edmonton's quiet local treasures.
🏒 Oilers & Sports
Oilers clinch playoff berth, prep for final home stretch
It's official, the Oilers have locked in their seventh consecutive playoff spot, secured on April 11 when the Winnipeg Jets fell to the Philadelphia Flyers. At 40-30-10, Edmonton sits second in the Pacific Division with just a couple regular season games left. Goaltender Connor Ingram also earned the team's nomination for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy for perseverance and dedication, which is a heartwarming storyline on top of the playoff push.
The tougher news: Leon Draisaitl isn't expected back for the start of the playoffs, so the rest of the roster will need to step up. Next up, the Oilers host the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Place on Thursday April 16 at 7 PM MT.

💛 Community Spotlight
Dallas Arcand has opened Kakio Studio Cafe at 10219 106 Street NW, and it's more than a new coffee spot. He's sharing the space with Tee Pee Treats, an Indigenous food business that's moved around for five years before finally landing a permanent home. Arcand says he hopes the cafe becomes a welcoming gathering place that inspires the community around it.
In a city where small independent spots keep our neighbourhoods feeling like neighbourhoods, this is the kind of opening worth showing up for. Swing by, grab a coffee, try a treat — simple ways to support something good.
If this helped you find something to do, pass it along.
